Netherfield School was in existence between 1929 and 1956 and during those years was very well known for the excellent results its pupils achieved in examinations. Its Principle Mrs Beatrice Violet Carrington, who ran her school in her home at 41 Westminster Drive, Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, gained a reputation for the quality of education she gave to all her pupils, the majority being the sons and daughters of business and professional people.
This website has been set up by me, Nina Singer (nee Ashley) on behalf of former pupils of Netherfield School in the hope that it will maintain the pleasant association some of us have had over the past ten years. Throughout that period of time
I gathered over 86 names and addresses of former pupils,
and produced 20 newsletters which were sent out to the majority of those on my secure database. However, I would point out that there is no formal society of "Old Netherfieldians", and that reunions held are informal gatherings of old friends
who just happen to have attended the same school. I hope that those who were not fortunate enough to have known
Mrs Carrington, nor had the benefit of her tuition during their childhood years, will be interested in the summary of her school's history.
In addition to the summary, you will find some of the photographs from my collection, dates for future reunions and occasional news items from "Old Netherfieldians", and links to other websites. You will not be able to access the site
to add to it or make alterations yourself, but please don't be afraid to contact me about anything you think needs changing, or might be appropriate to have published. Your personal input to this website will be most welcome.
As the site is still being developed there may be pages which do not have any content.
If anyone is researching their family history and thinks that a relative attended the school or was one of the teachers,
I would point out that my book, "Netherfield School and Memories of Childhood" contains a greater amount of information than is shown on the website, including lists of all known former pupils and teachers. Details about the book and how to obtain it can be found elsewhere on the website.
